Border School Tennis Tournament
On Friday 17th March the Borders Schools Tennis Tournament took place at Earlston High School. Melrose PS entered 3 teams, 1 girls and 2 boys teams.

The girls were Katie Swan, Georgia Litster and Catriona Hart. The school were defending their title from the previous year and the team were able to do this successfully. The girls played with great skill and athleticism and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Well played the girls!

The boys also had a successful day with the younger team meeting stiff opposition with the event finalists Kingsland and again played well and gained lots of experience with two of the players playing in their first tournament. The team was Cal Lynch, Alexander Smith and Scott Cameron.

The older boys, Jack Fourie Lochie Maitland Carew and Brodie Wright had a brilliant day and made the final in a tense affair against Kingsland PS. Unfortunately the team just missed out in a 2-1 defeat. The match was played in a sporting way and the team was a credit to the school as all the teams were.

Extract from the Southern:

Melrose youngsters Felicity Walls, Orla Lynch and Freya Tullis took the girls title, followed closely by Earlston’s Ailsa Clark, Kirsty Falconer and Jessica Damarell.

In the boys final, St Ronans and Melrose teams each won one game – St Ronan’s players Andrew Bradford and Drew Lobb with Melrose fielding Alistair Renton and Thor McGilvary. This left Rhys Bootland and Oliver Duguid to face each other in the final game of the evening. With a large crowd watching, and many mums biting their fingernails, Rhys won the title for St Ronan’s 7-6.
